Police departments reminding residents of city fireworks ordinances

With the Fourth of July holiday approaching, mid-Missouri police departments are reminding residents where they can and can’t set off fireworks.

The Columbia Police Department set up a message board on Rangeline Street Thursday that read, “Firework illegal in city. Enforcement Up.”

Columbia’s fireworks ordinance only allows sparklers within the city limits. All other fireworks are considered a misdemeanor offense.

Jefferson City has an ordinance similar to Columbia. Anything more than a party favor is considered a firework and is illegal to be set off within city limits.

Other mid-Missouri cities allow fireworks to be set off in the city closer to July 4.

Fulton allows fireworks to go off from July 3-5 between 1 and 11 p.m.
