Downtown bar cited for littering, possible storm drain violations

My House Nightclub and Sports Bar was cited for misdemeanor littering on Monday and still potentially faces charges from the city Stormwater Utility.

Today the city Law Department will meet with Stormwater Utility to assess possible damages concerning the Styrofoam-like decorations that fell into storm drains on 7th Street following last weekend’s “Christmas at the Beach” party at My House.

City employees reported to 7th Street Monday morning to clean up the foam balls that had blown onto the street, sidewalks and alleyways after Saturday’s party.

A concern for the city is the makeup of the foam that collected in storm drains. If Styrofoam is found in the foam that could pollute nearby bodies of water and pose a threat to the surrounding fish population.

Managers at My House said in an email that they only purchased biodegradable foam. “It might look like a mess but it will not harm the environment,” the email read.
