Southern Boone continues discussions over unpaid lunch due penalties

The Southern Boone School District is still trying to decide how to penalize parents for unpaid lunch dues.

ABC 17 News previously reported one of the punishments being considered could include parents missing school activities, including graduation.

On Thursday, the school board and parents discussed different options including a need to help some parents who can’t afford the fees.

“There are some parents who are on that borderline cusp to where they may not qualify for free or reduced lunch plans but are also struggling to make day-to-day bill payments and have to chose,” said parent Ernie Ren. “That’s where I feel the fundraising is going to help those parents.”

Overall, parents at the meeting said they wanted to make sure the students weren’t affected by potential penalties.
