Tropical Storm Cindy impacting the coast
Tropical storm Cindy has began to make it’s way inland and the Gulf Coast has already seen major impacts. A tropical storm warning has been issued from the coast of Texas through Alabama. These areas can expect tropical storm impacts within the next 36 hours.
Areas along the coastline are already seeing heavy rainfall and thunderstorm activity. Satellite imagery is showing greatest precipitation to the northeast of the low pressure center, which was located 150 miles off the coast of Louisiana as of 12 PM Wednesday.
Rainfall totals are quickly adding up along the coast, with the greatest amounts just off the coast of Mississippi, and along the Florida panhandle into Georgia. Rainfall accumulation within the past 24 hours has exceeded 6″ in some areas.
Storm reports have been quick to come in. Flooded roadways and interstates have been reported in parts of Atlanta, Alabama, and Georgia. Wind gusts as high as 50 mph have been clocked along the coastline. Along with that, two tornados were reported in Biloxi, Mississippi, along with Fort Walton Beach, Florida causing damage to power lines.
A tornado watch remains in effect for portions of Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Florida until 7 PM central.
The track of tropical storm Cindy has shifted slightly more to the south as it tracks inland into Missouri, just barely clipping the boothell. The storm is expected to arrive on the Texas, Louisiana border by 7 AM Thursday with winds up to 45 mph.
