Sedalia man pleads guilty to murder, arson

A man pleaded guilty Wednesday to his involvement in a deadly fire in Sedalia.

Aran Cantrell, 22, of Sedalia, pleaded guilty to murder and arson as part of a plea agreement in the death of Matthew Eldenburg.

Eldenburg died in a fire at a home on South Grand Avenue in June 2016. His death was investigated by the Sedalia Police Department and Fire Department and the Missouri State Fire Marshall’s Office.

Cantrell was sentenced to 24 years on both counts, to be served concurrently.

Charges were dismissed against Cody Harvey, of Sedalia, last month after prosecutors said they did not have sufficient evidence to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
