Second phase of Providence road project to start next week

Construction will continue on the Providence Road Improvement Project near the Mizzou campus next week.

The $3.9 million project is set to start its second phase on Monday. Crews will close the access from Providence to Burnam Road/Burnam Avenue. Those intersections will remain closed until August 13, weather permitting.

Turner Avenue is scheduled to reopen Friday, while Kentucky Boulevard and University Heights are set to reopen June 30.

Crews have been widening the intersections in preparation for new traffic signals and pedestrian crosswalks, said Barry Dalton, spokesperson for Columbia Public Works.

Providence at Burnam will see a new traffic signal once the project is complete.

Dalton said the project is designed to improve safety for drivers and pedestrians in the area.

“It’s a very wide road and that creates a hazard, so this will hopefully address that,” he said.

The entire project is scheduled to be done by the fall.
