Dry start to the week, with active weather on its way

TODAY: After a mild and pleasant start to the day, temperatures will begin to feel more like summer as we head through the day. Temperatures will climb into the upper 80s under sunny skies, as a ridge slowly begins to nose its way into the Midwest. Humidity will be on the increasing causing heat indices a degree or two above the actual air temperature. Winds will remain out of the west under 11 mph, with humidity increasing slowly.

TONIGHT: Temperatures will begin to fall into the upper 60s under mostly cloudy skies. Some areas north of I-70 may see a few light sprinkles through the late evening to early morning hours, but most areas will remain dry. There will be a slight breeze out of the southwest at 5-7 mph.

EXTENDED: The heat will return to Mid-Missouri as we head into the middle of the week, as highs will climb back into the lower 90s. Thanks to humidity not being as high, we’ll only see heat indices in the middle 90s through Thursday. With the increasing heat and humidity, this will set the stage for another round of showers and storms with each passing upper level disturbance. Isolated showers and storms are possible Thursday, but the better chance of rain arrives by Friday. A cold front will once again be knocking on our doorstep, with heavy rain and thunderstorms likely as we head into the weekend. The unsettled pattern looks to continue through the weekend into next week, as moisture from the tropics will likely keep us on the wet side.
