Strong storms knock out power across mid-Missouri

Thousands are without power after a strong line of storms moved through mid-Missouri late Saturday night with winds estimated up to 70 mph.

Initial storm reports indicate a city-wide power outage in Glasgow in Howard County with multiple power lines and tree limbs down across the city. One damage report included a snapped power pole blocking Highway 5 between Saline and Lafayette Street in Glasgow

As of midnight, nearly 1.700 Columbia Water and Light customers were with power. The largest outage happened in the northern part of the city from Vandiver Drive to Brown Station road up to Smiley Lane.

Boone Electric Cooperative was reporting several outages affecting more than 700 residents. At one point more than 400 Ameren customers were without power in Cooper County, but the outages were restored rather quickly.

As storms continued to track to the southeast multiple storm reports were coming in from around Mid-Missouri. Law enforcement in Callaway county reported that trees, power lines and some street light poles were down.

Near Ashland there were reports of a wind gust of 76 mph as storms rolled through the county.

Storm reports show that initially multiple reports were coming in from the Kansas City Metro, where storms were at their strongest. However, as the storms quickly raced to the southeast they gradually began to weaken.
