Extreme heat during Show-Me State Games

This weekend is the first for this summer’s Show-Me State Games, and it’s going to be a hot one.

ABC 17 Stormtrack Meteorologists expect the heat index, which is the “feels like” temperature, to be more than 100 degrees tomorrow around 4 pm.

Organizers of the games point to the help they get as the reason why the games go so smoothly every summer. Show-Me State Games Marketing and Media Coordinator Emily Lorenz said, “We’re very lucky to have university of Missouri Health Care’s support… using them as a resource for heat safety and awareness as well as just overall health and safety.”

Medical units are not on site for every sport, but when they are they help treat minor injuries like heat exhaustion and cramps. Organizers also bring large amounts of water and snacks for participants.

This weekends outdoor events include Soccer, Archery, Lacrosse and Pickleball.
