CPD investigates shooting in central Columbia
The Columbia Police Department investigated a shooting in the central part of the city Thursday night.
ABC 17 News was told officers responded to the 100 block of East Sexton around 9:45 p.m.
Police said five shell casings were found and a bullet was located in a tree. All of the rounds were from the same caliber gun.
Officers said witnesses saw three young black men driving westbound on Sexton in a white four-door car.
Investigators believe the vehicle is the same car that has caused several other disturbances this week.
ABC 17 News spoke with residents in the area. They said this part of Sexton, near Mary Street, is typically pretty quiet but they’re not surprised by the gunfire.
“It’s all people shooting each other over some business,” Mary Beach said. She’s lived in the neighborhood for 17 years. “If you’re not in their business, you’re probably not going to get shot.”
“I’ve raised my kids here,” Ken Williams said. He lives in Moberly but his niece lives near the intersection where the shooting happened. “It’s a nice town. But with growth comes some various things you have to deal with.”
No one was hurt in the shooting.
At last check, no arrests have been made.
