Investigators called after abandoned building catches fire in south Columbia

Fire investigators are working to determine what caused an abandoned building in south Columbia to catch fire Sunday evening, said Assistant Chief Gale Blomenkamp with the Boone County Fire Protection District.

Firefighters were called to the 4100 block of Bearfield Road just after 8 p.m. for a reported structure fire.

Fire officials said the fire had multiple small starting points, but they were able to put them out quickly.

Neighbors called in the fire after seeing smoke from their window.

Officials said they believe it was started by kids or teenagers.
