Above-average temperatures will persist through the week
It’s certainly been a warm start to the summer break across Mid-Missouri, and signs are pointing to an early bout of stifling heat as we head through the rest of this week.
While we started off June right around average, we quickly saw our temperatures soar.
While we’ve only seen one day this month that has recorded a temperatures in the lower 90s, we’ll have no trouble achieving that and more through the rest of this week.
The big reason: A building ridge is steadily pulling in moisture rich air and warmer temps.
This is essentially trapping the warmer air, which will stay with us through the rest of the week.
With rising humidity and temperatures in the lower 90s, we are likely to see some dangerous heat indices near 100 degrees. Now is the time to remember the importance of making sure you remain hydrated and limit your time outdoors the next few days.
If you aren’t a fan of humidity, there is some good news. A front has stalled on the periphery of the ridge that has set up shop across the eastern half of the U.S. Once the ridge pulls to the east we’ll see the front track through Mid-Missouri.
This front will do two things:
– Spark strong storms Wednesday, with the potential for some large hail and some much needed rain.
– Lower humidity values making the rest of the week feel manageable.
This front will set the stage for what will likely be hit or miss storms through most of the week, with upwards of an inch of rainfall for some locations by the weekend.
Even with the front, though, temperatures will still be in the upper 80s and lower 90s, but more manageable with lower humidity.
