Record low drought conditions
The United States drought monitor began weekly updates for drought conditions starting in 1999. Current drought levels are the lowest they have ever been since the start of this monitoring program. For years, the United States suffered high drought levels. In August of 2012, 65% of the United States was under a drought.
Today only a fraction of that is suffering from these conditions. Only 5% of the U.S. is under a drought. Currently, Florida is under the most severe drought. Florida should see improvements in these conditions thanks to high rainfall amounts from the first week of June.
Even though mid-Missouri has experienced dry weather for the past week, the Climate Prediction Center predicts above average rainfall from June 14 through June 20. Mid-Missouri is not currently in a drought.
