Residents to hear plans for new apartment complex, businesses on Vandiver Drive

A new apartment complex and planned business district development will be heard by the city of Columbia’s planning and zoning commission at a public hearing Thursday evening.

According to a staff report create by the planning and zoning commission, the company RUM, Inc. requested approval for the a development plan, that would also serve as the preliminary plat, to be known as “Centerstate Apartments C-P Plan & Preliminary Plat”.

The location of the development would be on a 36.37 acre plot of land on the north side of Vandiver Drive, west of Woodard Drive and south of Pioneer Drive, near the Bass Pro Shop.

The project includes a total of five lots and would create residential, commercial, and parkland areas. Two of the plots would create a park, one would create a multi-family development and the other two would be businesses.

The multi-family development would create 304 apartment units.

The application for approval of the development was received and approved last year, before the unified development code was in place. According to the report, several complex issues came up and delayed the processing of the approval.

The development plan has been reviewed again and complied with the UDC and previous code.
