MSHP releases results of statewide Annual School Bus Inspection Program

The Missouri State Highway Patrol announced the results of the Motor Vehicle Inspection Division’s 2017 annual school bus inspection program on Tuesday.

12,047 school buses across the state of Missouri were inspected by Missouri State Highway Patrol personnel from February 2 to May 5 of this year.

90.24 percent of the buses were approved by inspection personnel.

10,871 buses were rated as “approved” upon initial inspection, 925 buses were rated as “defective” and 251 buses were rated as “out-of-service.”

According to a press release from MSHP, buses rated as “defective” may continue to be used to transport students until the repair is made. Buses rated as “out-of-service” must be repaired, re-inspected, and placed back into service by Highway Patrol motor vehicle inspection personnel before being used to transport students.
