Police investigating death in south Columbia

The Columbia Police Department was investigating a death after receiving a medical response call Friday night.

The call came in around 6:15 p.m. for an unresponsive person on Southampton Drive in south Columbia.

Police confirmed just after 9 p.m. that a man had died in the parking lot by Swan Lake.

Medics tried to revive the man, but were unsuccessful.

ABC 17 News was told a cause of death will likely not be determined until after an autopsy is performed.

A forensic unit was on the scene and investigators took pictures near a dumpster blocked off by an orange barrier.

At least one evidence marker could also be seen.
