Spring season ends as top 10 wettest
It’s been one of the wettest springs across Mid-Missouri, with nearly 20 inches of rain falling across the region since March 1. Most of that fell during the month of April, when flooding impacted a good portion of the state.
With the end of meteorological spring coming to an end, the rain that fell was enough to place Mid-Missouri in the 10th wettest spring ever recorded at 18.68 inches. The previous wettest was back in 2013 when over 20 inches of rain fell.
These are the totals for each month:
* March – 3.21 inches
* April – 8.76 inches
* May – 6.71 inches
Our wet season looks to continue as we head through the rest of this week into the weekend, as several disturbances will sweep through the region. Current trends are looking to keep us on the wet side as we head through the middle of June, with above average rainfall across the state.
While spring is usually our wet season, that doesn’t mean the rain will hold up by summer. It’s all too common that many storms roll through Mid-Missouri in the middle of the night, with the lower level jet taking a huge roll in developing storms into the summer. This is something we’ll continue to watch for as we head into the next several weeks and on into summer.
