Vehicle catches fire with horses inside on South Westbrook Drive

Battalion Chief Klif Bullard, with the Southern Boone County Fire Protection District, said crews were called out to the 21000 block of South Westbrook Drive near Hartsburg.

They arrived to find a truck fully engulfed in flames, attached to a livestock trailer.

Crews put the flames out in about ten minutes.

The owner of the truck and trailer had reportedly just loaded multiple horses on to the trailer, left the area for a few minutes and returned to find his truck on fire.

He was able to get the animals out of the trailer without any injuries.

The truck was just filled with diesel fuel according to the owner.

Bullard said it’s not the fire protection district’s mandate to investigate a cause when the vehicle sustains such a high amount of damage.

He also said the cause will likely remain undetermined.
