Mid-Missouri schools plan for 2017 eclipse

Schools are out for the summer but the biggest event of the summer is 12 weeks away.

The total solar eclipse of 2017 will cut right through Mid-Missouri on Monday, Aug. 21.

Area schools are already preparing for it.

Columbia Public Schools purchased eclipse glasses for all students and staff.

CPS said the science department has been developing resources and learning materials for the first week of the school year, which is one week before the eclipse.

Jefferson City Public Schools and the Jefferson City Convention and Visitors Bureau have glasses for the system’s 9,000 students and 1,300 staffers. JCPS also has a scientific program to complement the planetary spectacular.
