Centralia school board approves tax levy increase for August ballot
The Centralia Board of Education unanimously voted to put a 60-cent tax levy increase on the August ballot during a special meeting Thursday evening.
If approved by voters, the board said the tax levy would go toward technology resources, maintaining school facilities as well as attracting high-quality educators with competitive teacher salaries.
Officials said the tax increase would also help offset decreased state and federal funding along with increased transportation and special education costs.
“Our district has reached a point where additional revenues will be needed to continue to provide the high level education that Centralia is known for,” said Justin Romine, board president.
The board said it would be the first rise in taxes proposed by the district in the past decade.
