Two confirmed tornadoes in Mid-Missouri from early morning storms

The National Weather Service out of St. Louis has confirmed that two tornadoes touched down in Mid-Missouri early Friday morning, from strong morning storms.

St. Louis meteorologists say that an EF-1 formed 1 mile east of Williamsburg in Callaway County, along Old US 40, with an estimated wind peak of 100 mph around 4:15 Friday morning. The tornado, which only lasted a minute, destroyed two barns and another was damaged. Meteorologists also found two vehicles that were flipped, with debris that was tossed up to a mile down the tornado’s path. The tornado crossed County Road 1031 where it snapped a power pole before dissipating.

The second tornado formed near Interstate 70 in Montgomery County, 1 mile southeast of New Florence. It had an estimated peak wind speed of 80 mph and formed around 4:23 Friday morning. The tornado lasted about five minutes and caused damage to two buildings at a MODOT facility, where it destroyed 12 garage doors and tossed them into power lines causing them to snap. There was also minor damage to a house with a garage door destroyed and part of the house shifted off the foundation. Several barns were reported damaged as the tornado continued to track east of New Florence before dissipating on County Road 230.
