Friday evening Tornado Watch, timing and threats

A Tornado Watch is in effect until 10 PM for most of Mid-Missouri, including areas south of HWY 24. Storms will increase from the west through the evening and could strengthen to severe levels, with all modes of severe weather possible.

The greatest tornado threat is south of HWY 50 where there is a 5% chance of a tornado within 25 miles of a point. The threat drops to 2% up to I-70. Also, storms could produce hail up to 2 inches in diameter and isolated damaging wind gusts to 70 mph. The highest wind and hail threats are along and south of I-70.

After these storms move east by 10 PM, another round is expected after midnight. These could also become severe with the main threats damaging wind. There is also a threat of large hail and an isolated tornado overnight.

Additional rainfall amounts of 1-2″ are expected and could lead to flooding into Saturday morning. Highest rainfall amounts are expected west of HWY 63. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect until 7 AM Saturday for areas along and west of HWY 65 in western Missouri.
