ORIGINAL STORY: The man Boone County Sheriff’s deputies identified as the suspect in a shooting on Gregory Drive has been charged with five crimes since August 2016.

Deaunte Shaw, wanted in connection to Tuesday’s shooting, was charged in August with stealing. According to court documents, Shaw and an accomplice stole three iPhones from a store in July. Investigators used surveillence video to identify the men.

Also in August, Shaw was charged with receiving stolen property. The probable cause statements said Shaw was in a car police pulled over for speeding. After searching the car, police found a stolen gun under the driver’s seat. A passenger in the car told police Shaw gave him the gun to put under the seat.

In October, Shaw was charged with robbery and armed criminal action. According to court documents, Shaw met with a friend in the Gerbe’s parking lot on Paris Road. While sitting in his friend’s car, the friend told police Shaw took his wallet and took out $100 cash. When the friend asked Shaw to give the money back, the friend told police Shaw lifted his shirt, revealing a gun in his waistband.

Police located Shaw at the Hardee’s Restaurant on Paris Road. Police said they found a black handgun in Shaw’s waistband when they arrested him. The arresting officer said the gun was fully loaded with a round in the chamber. Police also found $107 in cash.

In March 2017, Shaw was charged with felony unlawful possession of a firearm. A Boone County deputy pulled Shaw over in Columbia. The deputy said while searching the car, he found a gun in the rear passenger compartment. The passengers in the car told the deputy Shaw put the gun there and told one of the passengers to hide the gun while being stopped by the deputy.

During this stop, Shaw was on probation for felony stealing and had been convicted of felony receiving stolen property in January 2017.

A warrant was issued for Shaw’s arrest in April after he failed to appear in court for his March charges.
