Summer state of mind

It’s that time of the year again. Schools are closing their doors, pools are being flooded with visitors, the days are longer and nights shorter, and the outdoors is seeing more action that it has in many months.

Summer is knocking on our doorstep here in Mid-Missouri. For many Mid-Missourians this means fun activities are in the works, especially as the thermometer continues to climb into warmer territory.

Of course, we already have been having gorgeous weather the past week and many families are already capitalizing on that. Area water hot spots like Stephen’s Lake Park is already beginning to see an increase in activity, as the sun shines its warmth.

With summer right around the corner, there are several things to do to make sure that safety is the number one priority.

It’s important to make sure that light-colored clothing is worn when outside, this will help in reflecting most of the sunshine away from the body. Sunglasses are essential for any sunny days, as the glasses protect the eyes from developing cancer or cataracts. Now is the time where drinking plenty of water becomes key to staying healthy, as the warm days zap more water from the body than on a cool day. The last thing to do is making sure that sunscreen is worn, as it will keep most of the UV rays from harming the skin.
