Columbia police detain one after investigation in north Columbia

UPDATE 5/10 9:54 A.M.: Columbia police officers were called to the 5300 block of Currituck Lane on Tuesday because of a trespass subject.

After investigating, officers found out that Tyrell Brown had a verbal altercation at a home in the area with a woman whom he was related to by family.

Brown struck the woman’s vehicle as he left the home. While officers were investigating the incident, Boone County Joint Communications received calls regarding shots fired in the area Currituck Lane. During a search of the area, officers found multiple shell casings on Edenton Boulevard.

Later that night, officers saw a vehicle being driven by Brown and conducted a traffic stop with him at the McDonald’s on 1012 Smiley Lane.

Officers saw two guns in the vehicle with Brown. The bullets in one of the guns matched the caliber and make of the casings found on Edenton Boulevard. Officers searched Brown’s vehicle and found 64 grams of methylenedioxymethamphetamire (MDMA/ecstasy), 34 grams of crack cocaine, a digital scale and a box of plastic bags.

Brown was arrested for two counts of second degree felony trafficking and three counts of unlawful use of weapons.
