Sunrise Beach man accused of hitting man with truck, leaving the scene

The Camden County prosecutor’s office charged Daniel Pettis Friday with first-degree assault, leaving the scene of an accident and other driving violations after he allegedly hit a man with his truck.

The victim told a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper that Pettis hit him just after midnight Thursday near Route F and Quiet Oaks Drive. According to the probable cause statement, the victim was taken to the hospital with multiple fractures in his leg.

The trooper and a deputy confronted Pettis about the incident at his home shortly after. Pettis denied hitting the victim and driving off.

Court documents claim the law enforcement officers found a handprint and scratches on the hood of Pettis’ truck. Pettis was arrested and taken to the Camden County jail and placed on a 24-hour hold.

Authorities later found Pettis did not have title to the truck and there was no registration on the front or back bumper. He was also charged Friday with driving while revoked and driving without registration.
