Weather conditions in Cole County continue to cause road closures

UPDATE: 14 roads are closed in Cole County because of water in the roadways on Monday.

Cole County Public Works updated the following list of roads that are closed:

-North Branch Road

-Loesch Road

-Bainer Road

-Zion Road

-Buffalo Road

-Deer Run Road

-Waterford Road

-Murphy’s Ford Road

-Meadowsford Road

-Engineers Road

-Railroad Street

-Water Street

-Tanner Bridge Road

-Schueler Feery Road

Larry Benz, with Cole County Public Works, said crews right now are mainly trying to get roads to be passable. which includes cleaning debris out of pipes and from underneath structures as well as inspecting the roads due to erosion.

Benz said the force of the floodwaters has a damaging effect on infrastructure.

“Until the water goes down and people can actually see what they’re driving on, I would suggest not going through any of the water. Give us time to get out there and get them,” Benz said.

The Jefferson City Fire Department told ABC 17 News that the Green Meadow neighborhood was the heaviest hit area within the city limits. Crews were proactive in making sure their equipment was placed strategically throughout the neighborhood in case of emergencies.

Chief Jason Turner told ABC 17 News crews were able to store some of their equipment in residents’ houses.

“Historically, we’ve followed the same procedures that we’ve always done,” Turner said. “State some equipment in those areas, like we did.”
