Missouri Senate moves state budget forward

After days of debate, the Missouri state Senate approved a $27.8 billion operating budget and sent it back to the House on Thursday.

With only two weeks left in the 2017 legislative session, there is yet one step before before the budget is sent to Gov. Eric Greitens for final approval.

The Senate still needs to confer with the House on most of the budget bills before the session ends on May 12.

“The Appropriations Committee has worked diligently during this challenging budget year, but the work is not complete,” said Majority Floor Leader Mike Kehoe, R-Jefferson City. “I have confidence in the committee and staff’s capabilities, and I am confident we will have the final budget to the governor’s desk by the end of next week.”
