UPDATE: Apartment fire in east Columbia sparks narcotics investigation

Update 4/23: Columbia police confirmed that Nathaniel Demian, 33, was arrested in connection with the narcotics investigation.

Update 8:20 a.m.: Columbia police said that they are investigating a narcotics incident at the 3300 block of Albany Court.

Officers said they have one person in custody.

Officers told ABC 17 News that the fire led to a narcotics investigation.

Original: The Columbia Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire at the 3300 block of Albany Court around 4 a.m. Saturday.

Firefighters at the scene said the dryer caused an electrical fire. They said the fire started to burn inside the wall when they arrived.

Firefighters said that there wasn’t a lot of damage and there were no injuries involved.

Columbia police officers also responded to the scene but for a different reason.

An overnight sergeant with CPD told ABC 17 News that he could not release any information at this time.

ABC 17 News is working to find out more information.
