UPDATE: Police identify suspicious death victim on East Miller Street

UPDATE 2:11 p.m.: The victim has been identified as Jerry Robertson, 63, of Jefferson City.

UPDATE: 1:15 p.m.: Jefferson City police are continuing to investigate and follow leads after the found a man with multiple assault wounds late Thursday night.

Police said they have not ruled out anything and are not narrowing their focus.

Police said it a rapidly evolving investigation and detectives have been working since getting the assault call on Thursday night.

Circumstances of the assault, or the victim’s injuries are not clear. The exact location of the assault is also unknown. Police were investigating a home on East Miller Street as well as an empty lot across the street from the home.

Police said they are speaking to a number of people of interest.

ABC 17 News spoke to a neighbor who said she heard a loud pop or bang late Thursday night.

“I’ve heard that before,” the neighbor, who didn’t want to be identified, said. “You don’t poke your head out the door and look to see what’s going on, especially late at night.”

The woman said the lot where she believes the man was hurt used to have a home that burned down a few years ago.

“We were really surprised when we saw someone with their truck and trailer back in there,” the woman said. “We didn’t know who he was. He just happened to show up one day. And the next thing we knew, we’d found out this had happened to him.”

The woman said she’s lived in the neighborhood for about seven years and this sort of thing happens every now and then.

“It still surprises me,” she said. “I mean, it’s not anything that happens very often like every night or once a week, but you know, every few months something happens.”

UPDATE 9:46 a.m.: Jefferson City police responded Thursday night to a reported assault and found a 63-year-old male suffering from multiple wounds. The cause of the wounds has not been confirmed.

ORIGINAL STORY: Jefferson City police are investigating a suspicious death.

The incident was reported around 11 p.m. Thursday in the 1400 block of East Miller Street.

Details are limited, but police said they’ll release more information Friday morning.

ABC 17 News crews got reports of a shooting on the street.

ABC 17 News asked police how the person died, but got no answer.

Officers said there have been no arrests.

Police said there will be more information on the incident later Friday.
