Scattered storms today, with wet end to week
TODAY: It’s been a quiet and warm start to the day, but an approaching cold front will be scattered showers and storms into Mid-Missouri. A line of storms will begin to approach the Highway 65 corridor by 4-5AM and gradually track to the southeast. Columbia and Jefferson City will see some storm activity as we head into the sunrise hour. Thankfully, the severe weather threat is very limited and at best most storms will only see pea size hail if any. Storms will push to the south and approach the I-44 corridor by the afternoon before exiting. Temperatures will stay in the 60s with partly to mostly cloudy skies and a west-northwest breeze up to 10 mph.
TONIGHT: The frontal boundary responsible for the morning storms will stall to our south. This will allow moisture to pull along the front and keep rain chances in the forecast for areas along and south of Hwy 50 overnight. Lows will be significantly cooler in the upper 40s to near 50 degrees with northeasterly winds under 10 mph.
EXTENDED: A strong storm system will track to our south Friday through Saturday and will bring periods of rain to Mid-Missouri. Rain will increase Friday morning in the Ozarks and gradually move north to I-70 by mid-afternoon and north into the evening hours. It will be cool Friday with high temperatures in the upper 50s, cooling to the upper 40s for highs Saturday. Rain will be on and off through Saturday morning before tapering off from west to east through the afternoon Saturday. Heavy rain is possible and we’ll need to monitor for possible flooding Friday night and Saturday as rainfall amounts are expected to reach 1 to 3 inches from I-70 south with highest totals closer to I-44. Rainfall amounts will drop off to a half inch north of I-70. Sunday looks like a dry and pleasant day with mostly sunny skies, light northerly winds and high temperatures in the mid to upper 60s.
