Cole County Sheriff’s Office to increase DWI enforcement

The Cole County Sheriff’s Office is planning to increase DWI enforcement as summer starts.

The Sheriff’s Office said it initiate increase enforcement in conjunction with the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration under its “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.

The Sheriff’s Office was awarded traffic grants to fund DWI enforcement and hazardous moving violations from mid-April through July. The grant funds cover personnel, fuel and supplies.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the total number of traffic deaths in Missouri dropped to 766 in 2014. However, deaths increased during 2015 and 2016.

“We want everyone to enjoy the end of the school year, enjoy their summer, and not have to suffer the loss of loved one. We ask that you be smart and do not drive impaired,” said Cole County Sheriff John Wheeler.
