DPS looking into JCPD’s training and licensing of officers

The Department of Public Safety (DPS) is looking into the training of officers and reviewing their licenses.

Training has switched from 48 hours every three years to 24 hours every year. DPS is looking into the JCPD and if their officers are in compliance with their Police Officer Standard Training (POST). The Jefferson City Police Department was contacted three times in response to an anonymous call from someone concerned that they were not following procedure.

The Chief of the Jefferson City Police Department told ABC 17 that he has no problem releasing the paperwork, but would like to know what the complaint was and any other public information on the investigation. He would also like to know how departments are picked to comply with the requests and what the process is for selection.

Jefferson City hasn’t had been questioned in 16 years.

There are only two employed by the state to cover these investigations for every police department in Missouri.
