Man in custody after high-speed chase overnight through Columbia

Wednesday at 3:10 a.m. deputies tried to initiate a traffic stop but a truck failed to yield.

A chase began on the Connector and ended on the Business Loop.

The chase was brief but ABC17 was hearing reports that it reached up to 90 miles per hour at one point.

Deputies tell our crews they placed spike strips down and that is how the chase ended.

There were several deputies and some police on scene.

Deputies searched the truck. They told our crews they found some items of interest, but would not say what they were.

Deputies also say the truck had expired plates dating back to 1999.

The male driver of the truck was taken into custody, no one else was in the vehicle.

Deputies say they will release more information within the next few hours.
