Missouri leaders react to U.S. attack on Syria

After the United States launched a missile attack Thursday against an airbase in Syria, Missouri leaders are weighing in on the action.

The following are statements made by lawmakers and state officials:

“I’m supportive of these strikes – against a source of barbaric chemical weapons attacks on civilians – I just hope it wasn’t an impulsive reaction, but rather part of a broader plan and strategy,” said U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Missouri, senior member of the Armed Services Committee.

“This week dozens of innocent people were murdered in a horrific chemical weapons attack in Syria,” said Rep. Sam Graves, R-Missouri. “Our response makes clear that the United States is committed to preventing international war crimes and that we strongly condemn the use of weapons of mass destruction, especially against innocent civilians. I applaud President Trump for his decisive action and will continue to support any effort to ensure Assad is held accountable.”

“Tuesday’s heartless and brutal attack demanded an answer,” said U.S. Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler, R-Missouri. “We cannot continue to let this tyrant commit such atrocities, and I am hopeful the President’s decision this evening will prevent further bloodshed.”

This article will be updated as statements from Missouri leaders are released.
