Heavy Rain Likely Tuesday Night

TODAY: It’s a cloudy and cool afternoon across Mid-Missouri, with temperatures in the mid to upper 50s. Despite the cloud coverage, we will still warm into the lower 60s as we head through the remainder of the day. There is a slight shower chance by 2PM-3PM near HWY 24 this afternoon, while heavy rain and storms increase after 6PM tonight. A line of showers and t-storms with heavy rain will move from near HWY 65 near 7PM- 9 PM, east through the overnight hours. Storms could become strong to severe and currently there is a Slight Risk south of I-70 with main threats large hail and damaging wind, and a Marginal Risk for those east of US 63 and north of I-70 towards HWY 24.

TONIGHT: Rain amounts overnight through Wednesday morning look to range from 0.75″ to 2″. Localized minor flooding on rivers in Saline, Chariton, and Cooper counties is possible. Winds from the northeast overnight will steadily increase bringing gusts to 30 mph.

EXTENDED: Periods of rain will continue Wednesday morning through the afternoon with flurries mixing in at times mainly north of I-70. It will be much cooler Wednesday with falling temperatures from the low 50s in the morning through the 40s during the day. We’ll have gusty northerly winds up to 40 mph with highest gusts north of I-70 on Wednesday. Thursday looks breezy, partly cloudy and cool with highs in the 50s. We’ll have a chilly night Thursday with lows dipping into the low to mid 30s. We’ll need to watch for possible frost late Thursday night into Friday morning. Warmer, drier weather moves in Friday through Sunday with high temperatures reaching near 70 Saturday and low to mid 70s Sunday with possible storms returning on Sunday night.
