Deputies: Men in two separate vehicles shoot at each other

A felony charge of unlawful use of a weapon was filed against Mariquan Midgyett, 19, around 4 p.m. Tuesday, in connection with the shooting in west Columbia on Sunday.

According to the court documents, deputies responded to the 3400 block of Crestview Drive for reports of men driving and shooting at each other.

Witnesses told deputies that “subjects in an older blue police car” and “subjects in a silver Mercury SUV” were shooting at each other while driving on Crestview Drive.

The probable cause statements of the other two men arrested, Barron Thompson, 19, and Monterio Truss, 17, listed that there were only two vehicles involved in the shooting, a blue Crown Victoria and a gray Ford Fusion.

According to the probable cause statement of Midgyett, either Thompson or Truss told deputies that Midgyett was the driver of the Mercury SUV.

Deputies said that once they located Midgyett and his SUV, they found a pistol that matched the caliber of some of the shell casings found at the scene.

Deputies said Midgyett admitted to being involved in the shooting.
