Crash knocks down power line in Jefferson City

A Jefferson City man suffered minor injuries after crashing into a utility pole on Industrial Drive Thursday afternoon.

Police said the 72-year-old driver was traveling east in the 2400 block of the street when he experienced a medical problem, lost control of his vehicle and ran off the right side of the road, breaking the utility pole in half.

The Jefferson City Police Department asked drivers to avoid the area, tweeting before 4 p.m. that the crash between Dix and Jaycee knocked the power line down, potentially causing danger to the public. That section of the street was closed for about four and a half hours while Ameren UE replaced the pole.

The driver was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
