Columbia police investigate 24 homicides in five years, three still unsolved
Columbia police have not yet arrested anyone in a triple shooting Sunday on I-70 Drive N.W. near Garden Drive that left two people dead and one injured.
Michael Walker and Jeffrey Jones were the second and third homicides this year. 25-year-old Shamya Brimmage was killed by gunfire earlier this month on Madison Street in central Columbia.
Between 2012 and 2016, police investigated 21 homicides and of those 21, only three remain unsolved. Police arrested at least one person shortly after 18 of those homicides.
In most cases, with a few exceptions, most of those arrested were found or pleaded guilty to either murder or involuntary manslaughter charges.
Here’s a breakdown of the homicide investigations and their results. Some of the cases had more than one arrest made but charges were either dropped or amended as a result of plea bargains. The final results are what are posted below.
