Timing Friday’s storms, threats

Parts of Mid-Missouri are still under a Marginal Severe Threat for Friday afternoon and evening. Widespread severe storms are not expected but isolated storms with damaging wind and large hail are possible. Storms will also contain pockets of heavy rain and frequent lightning.

A line of showers and storms is expected to be near HWY 65 by 1 PM, affecting Sedalia to Marshall to Brunswick. It will slowly move to the east and into Boonville close to 3 PM, Columbia and Moberly 3-4 PM and Jefferson City 4-5 PM, with showers and storms lining up over HWY 63 from 5-6 PM. Areas east of HWY 63 will be affected by these storms after 6 PM through midnight. Storms will be efficient rain producers with many areas picking up 1″ to 2″ of rain with locally higher amounts up to 2.5″ in northeast Mid-Missouri near Vandalia and Monroe City.

Showers will increase once again Saturday morning from the southwest 6-8 AM with on and off showers through the afternoon as surface low pressure tracks to the east over Mid-Missouri. Isolated storms are possible Saturday but at this time severe weather is not expected.
