Law enforcement responds to mid-Missouri jail riot
UPDATE, 1:06 a.m.: The Johnson County Sheriff’s Department posted on its Facebook page at 12:15 a.m. Friday the riot at the jail had been resolved. According to the department’s post, there were no injuries to staff or inmates.
UPDATE, 11:30 p.m.: The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office posted an update to its Facebook page, stating: “It’s still an active scene and progress is being made by law enforcement. We will continue to update as this incident is resolved.”
UPDATE, 11:05 p.m.: Pettis County Sheriff Kevin Bond confirmed to ABC 17 News that deputies from his department are assisting with the riot at the Johnson County Jail.
ORIGINAL STORY: According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, the department is working to contain a riot inside the jail.
Deputies posted around 10:30 p.m. Thursday that it had requested help from neighboring counties and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The post stated inmates were rioting inside one of the pods of the building.
There have been no injuries to jail employees.
