Police find shell casings in central Columbia

UPDATE: Police confirm officers found shell casings in the 1000 block of Madison Street, as well as a home hit by gunfire in the 500 block of Jackson Street.

Hours later, officers responded to calls of shots heard in the same location. This time, they found two women suffering gunshot wounds. You can read more about that story by clicking here.

“All preliminary information would suggest that these two incidents may be related, however, this is subject to change pending further investigation,” said public information officer Bryana Larimer.

ORIGINAL STORY: Columbia police are investigating after receiving reports of shots fired in central Columbia.

Police cleared the scene at Madison Street and West Forest Avenue just before 6:30 p.m.

Before they left, police took pictures of the area and interviewed several people.
