Man stabbed in north Columbia

UPDATE 3/19: Columbia police confirm Vonzeal Sheley was arrested for armed criminal action and assault in connection to the stabbing.

UPDATE 6:30 p.m.: Two men are in custody after another man was stabbed Saturday morning on Sylvan Lane.

Columbia police said the victim and another man arrived at a home on the 1600 block of Sylvan and were allowed inside by the two male suspects.

While the four were inside, a fight broke out and one of the suspects attacked the victim with a knife.

The fight continued outside before the attacker fled to another home in the area. The man who arrived with the victim detained the second suspect outside until police arrived.

Police provided first aid to the 28-year-old victim until emergency medical service personnel arrived and took him to the hospital with serious injuries.

The man who arrived at the home with the stabbing victim had head injuries and was treated at the hospital

Officers set up a perimeter around the home the suspect fled to and he voluntary gave himself up to officers without incident.

Police said charges are pending and they don’t believe there are any other suspects in the case.

UPDATE 12:30 p.m.: Police confirmed that one person was stabbed at least twice and transported to University Hospital with serious injuries.

One of the stab wounds was to the victim’s upper chest.

Police said two groups of people were fighting before the person was stabbed.

Police have two people detained, but the investigation is ongoing.

ORIGINAL: Columbia police responded to the 1600 block of Sylvan Lane around 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

The area is not blocked off.

ABC 17 News crews are at the scene getting more information.
