Missouri House bill would discontinue daylight saving in state

Rep. Mike Kelley, a Lamar Republican, filed a joint resolution in the Missouri House under which the state would no longer recognize the practice of daylight saving.

The text of the bill says the following: “After March 2017 Missouri will not recognize daylight saving time for any public purpose or as the official time for Missouri.”

The resolution also stipulates that it would only take effect if two adjacent states do the same.

Kelley proposed this idea in previous sessions with no success.

“I think we’ll see other states say, ‘There’s no reason to continue to change back and forth,'” said Kelley. “It’s an archaic practice that serves no purpose, and obviously our citizens appreciate more daylight in the off-work hours, and that’s what this proposal would give.”

A full summary of the resolution can be seen here.
