Columbia intersection shows no major safety issues

After three people suffered non-life-threatening injuries in a crash involving a school bus in Columbia, ABC 17 News is looking at the crash history of the intersection where the Tuesday morning crash happened.

Emergency crews worked the scene of the crash on Providence Road near Ash Street.

According to MODOT, over the last five years there have been 26 reported crashes at that intersection.

Fifteen of the crashes were classified as fender benders and 11 were considered minor injury crashes. No “fatal or disabling injury” crashes have been reported at the intersection.

MODOT engineer Mike Schupp says he has taken no complaints about that intersection. He says if anyone would like to share complaints or concerns, “Call our 888 ask MODOT number (1.800.275.6636) and be specific. That way we can send our folks out there to check on it and see what’s going on.”

Schupp has very simple warnings for all drivers: “Follow the signs. Follow the speed limit.”
