Winter weather returns by late tonight

TODAY: Partially clear skies coupled with warm southeasterly surface winds will allow our temperatures to build to a warmer high in the mid to upper 40s. By tonight, we will be due for another round of precipitation as a wintery mix tracks from the northeast and makes its way into Mid-Missouri from the northwest by 8 PM – 9 PM. Temperatures will be above freezing in the mid to upper 30s by this evening. Due to that shallow layer of warm surface air, we will see a combination of mostly rain and some snow in this system.

MONDAY: The wintery mix will continue into the Monday forecast and will begin to move out of the viewing area by the late morning hours. Temperatures will be on the threshold of freezing, so this system will continue to be a mixture of rain and snow. Since temperatures have been colder for the past few days, use caution on roadways in the morning hours; especially on elevated surfaces and bridges. Accumulation will be minimal due to the quick pace of this system, and will affect more so the eastern half of Missouri. By the afternoon, conditions will be dry and remain cloudy with winds speeding up to gusts near 25 mph out of the northwest, with highs reaching into the lower 40s.

EXTENDED: Conditions will stay dry, sunny, and cold into Tuesday and Wednesday with temperatures staying in the upper 30s and 40s, which is below the seasonal average. We will see conditions begin to warm up by next Friday with a slight chance of rain to follow into the weekend.
