Puryear’s OT buzzer beater gives Mizzou SEC tourney win over Auburn
Kevin Puryear was not ready for the Kim Anderson era to end Wednesday night. The sophomore forward hit a buzzer-beating three point shot to sink Auburn 86-83 in overtime.
MU looked out of the game with less than two minutes left. Cullen VanLeer hit a three pointer to cut the Auburn lead to 74-70. He also hit another three with 17.9 left to cut the Auburn lead to three. That opened the door for Frankie Hughes, who knocked down the game-tying three pointer with 1.8 seconds left.
In overtime, Puryear got Mizzou’s first bucket of the extra period. Auburn built a 83-80 lead until Hughes tied the game again at 83-83. Mizzou had the last shot of the game and found Puryear wide open at the top of the key for the Mizzou’s shot of the year.
Kevin Puryear finished the night with 30 points, a new career high for the sophomore. VanLeer scored 16 points, making 5 of 7 shots from three point range. Hughes finished 8 points while Jordan Geist had 14.
Missouri moves to 3-3 all time in the SEC tournament.
