MSP land transfer moves forward

The Missouri Senate’s general laws committee heard and approved Senate Bill 486 Wednesday.

The bill would transfer ownership of a 32-acre plot of land at the old Missouri State Penitentiary from the state to the city of Jefferson.

“This is what our community has waited for almost 13 years that the prison has been vacant,” said Mayor Carrie Tergin to the committee. “My number one priority as mayor is to see prison redevelopment happen for the city of Jefferson and for the state of Missouri.”

Tergin said redevelopment of the land and expansion of the existing historical site is the goal for the propoerty.
