Widespread Severe Damage From Overnight Storms

A squall line brought widespread damage from overnight storms. Here are the reports. Greatest damage looks to have occurred out of Chariton, Cooper counties, and Morgan counties.

In Columbia, parts of a strip mall look to have the roof blown off into the parking lot. Early this morning we had a report of it in the intersection of Vandiver and Providence. There is also possible tornado damage in Pilot Grove in Cooper County where windows have been reported blown out of a house with numerous tree limbs down near 5 SSW Pilot Grove. Per the Cooper County Emergency Management, a line of damage extends from Highway 135, just south of Pilot Grove to a line northeast to Highway 5 and Mile Corner Road. As of 8:00 AM Cooper County Emergency Management and the National Weather Service have coincided, and a damage survey team will be sent to assess either straight line winds or a tornado. Here are some photos just south of the Boonville area.

In Mendon, in Chariton County, 2X4s have been reported, and a house roof blown off and power lines down at 1 S Mendon.

In La Monte in Pettis County, reports of 10″ tree limbs are down and power lines are down at HWY 127.

There was minor wind damage reported in Randolph county near Cairo. This barn was over 100 years old that tiped over with last night’s storms.

In Laurie Missouri, a tree has been reported to land on a home on HWY 5. In Rocky Mount at Oak Knoll Road, part of a building has been reported in the road. We’ll continue to provide more storm reports after sunrise and after damage is assessed. Columbia picked up 0.43″ total rainfall overnight. Rolla reached over 1/2″ at 0.52″ and Sedalia reported 0.44″. Here are some additional rain totals.
