Flu cases drop in Boone County

Reported flu cases have dropped after a steady rise of the flu.

This comes after Boone County’s Public Health and Human Services Department released their flu numbers from the end of January.

203 cases reported the week of Feb. 12 – Feb.18, 2017 268 cases reported the week of Feb. 5 – Feb. 11, 2017 233 cases reported the week of Jan. 29 – Feb. 4, 2017 146 cases reported the week of Jan. 22 – Jan. 28, 2017 The number of cases have gone up for three weeks straight, but then the number dropped.

The CDC says seasonal flu activity can start as early as October and can continue through late May.

The Boone County Health Department says it is still offering flu shots for those who would like to get one. The shots are free for children who are 6 months old through those who are 18.

Officials say the best way to prevent the flu is to get a flu shot and care for your health.

And if you feel like the flu is coming on, go to your doctor to get checked out.
